If nominations are anything to go by, the Australian International event is proving incredibly popular with lifters from throughout Australia and Oceania.
The second Australian International will be held in Brisbane on March 19-20, and alongside a list of Australian Olympic hopefuls will be several world-class lifters from Nauru, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Palau, Kiribati, American Samoa and Micronesia.
It’s a tremendous boost for the event, coming just four months after the highly successful inaugural event was held in Brisbane.
The Australian International will provide Australian weightlifters with their second-last chance to lift a qualifying weight for this year’s Rio Olympics.
Among the Australians lifting will be two-time Olympian, Damon Kelly, multiple Australian record holder, Erika Ropati-Frost, and one of the stars from the first Australian International, Tia-Clair Toomey.
